          How do I get an absentee ballot?

For the November election absentee ballots may be picked up from the Town clerk's office in the Town Hall up to one week prior to the election.  Or they may be obtained from the Saratoga County Board of Elections in the County Complex located in Ballston Spa. Please call the Board of Elections(518)885-2249 or Town of Malta Town Clerk (518)899-2552 with any questions.



          Where can I find the Town Complex?

The Malta Town Complex is located on State Route 9, just 1/4 mile north of the Route 9 and Route67 intersection.  Coming from the South, exit 12 from the interstate 87. Take a right at the exit, precede to the second traffic light, take a left hand turn onto Route 9 heading north, (make sure to get over into the left hand turn lane) Just 1/4 mile north on the Right side of the road you will find the Town Complex.  Exact address: 2540 Route 9 Malta, NY 12020

          Where do I apply for a D.B.A. (Doing Business As) license from?

D.B.A. licenses may applied for at the Saratoga county Clerk's office.  This office is located in Ballston Spa (County Seat) at 40 McMaster Street.  518-899-2213.



          Where may I obtain a passport application from?

Passport applications can be obtained from the County Clerk's office or printed on-line from the U.S. Department of State web site.   To find the closest acceptance center follow the link http://www.iafdb.travel.state.gov/  or take it to the County Clerk's office location in Ballston Spa.

          Does the Town have municipal water and sewer?

 

 No. The area in the southern part of the Town (areas include the developments of Knolls 11, Country Knolls North, Hearthwood Estates, etc.) are covered by Clifton Park Water Authority and are thus with a municipal water company.   The subdivision of  Luther Forest, Northway Estates, some residents around Saratoga Lake and some other  areas are hooked up to Saratoga Water Services (privately held water company) and Saratoga County  Sewer system.  The Town of Malta does not have it's own municipal water or sewer.  Saratoga Water Services - (518)899-6424 Clifton Park Water Authority - (518)383-1122  Saratoga County Sewer District#1(518)664-7396

          How do I get a Building Permit or a variance?

A building permit is required for any renovations, conversions, or alterations to buildings or properties in the Town.  Information can be obtained from the Building Department in the Town Hall.  Located at 2540 Route 9. 1/4 mile north on Route 9 from the intersection of Route 9 and Route 67.  The Building Department may be reached by calling (518)899-2685 Mon. through Fri. 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. Fee schedule is on the Building Department Page.

          How do I get a

Certificates of residence may be obtained from The Town Clerk's office with two (2) proofs of residency, such as, a Driver's License or permit, Rent receipt or lease, Bank statement, etc.  One proof being at least one year old and the other at least one month old. There are many more items accepted.  Please call the Town Clerk's Office for details.  They are open Mon.-Fri. 9a.m. till 5p.m. (518)899-2552.

          How can I reserve a park pavilion or use Town facilities?

The department of Parks, Recreation and Buildings located at the Malta Community Center is the scheduling office for Town parks and Town facilities. The conference rooms, Multi-purpose room including stage and park pavilions are available to groups or individuals interested in reserving them for recreational use.  A deposit is required and a certificate of insurance naming the Town of Malta as additional insured. There is a schedule of fees available from the Community Center.  Please contact The Malta Community Center for more information Mon.- Fri. 9a.m. till  5p.m. at One Bayberry Drive (518)899-4411 or download the Park Permit or Building Use forms.

          How do I apply for the STAR program ?

The STAR program ( School Tax Relief exemption) is open to ALL town homeowners regardless of your income or age.  To be eligible the Assessor's Office must have on file A)  a copy of your vehicle registration showing the correct address.  B)  A copy of your bill of sale if you live a mobile home. C) Completed STAR application  form that is available at the Assessor's office in the Town Hall.  Documentation must be filed by March 1st for the following school tax bill in September.  Please call (518)899-2584 with any questions.



          May I pay my taxes with a credit card?

Saratoga County has selected Malta to participate in a  program accepting credit cards for the payment of 2004 Town and County tax bills. Only the Discover Card will be accepted, because no other credit card companies agreed to the program.

This option will be available only until March 31st and all applicable interest and penalties will still apply. Questions regarding this new program can be directed to my office at 899-5884. Sylvia Sievers, Receiver of Taxes

          May I attend a Town Board Meeting?

Yes! Town Board meetings are the First Monday of the Month and are held at 7:30p.m. in the Town Hall Main Meeting Room.  The public is also invited to attend the public hearings, often held directly preceding the meeting, usually commencing at 7p.m.  The agenda meeting is held the last Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. and is open for public comments and concerns. Also all board meeting such as the Planning Board and Zoning Board are open to the public.  Official notice of all the meetings appear in the official newspapers,  The Schenectady Gazette and The Ballston Journal, in the legal notice section.  The meetings are also listed on the Town web site sections Meeting Schedules section Events Calendar.

          Does the Town have a District Attorney ?

The Town's has "D.A." day for Justice McKevitt every 2nd and 4th Tues. of the month , and for Justice Nichols every 2nd and 4th Thurs. of the month. Appointments may be made by calling the courts at (518)899-6121 or (518)899-6797.
