Fire Protection Committee:

Fire and emergency response is a core mission and high priority for the Town. The Fire Protection Master Plan prepared by Emergency Services Consultants (ESC) in September 2009 identifies many opportunities for efficiencies and cost savings in Malta’s fire response services. Moreover, ESC identified the importance of carefully projecting service needs and for short and long range planning and financing to meet needs, with the least impact on taxpayers. Several strategies, growth scenarios and options were identified.

The Round Lake and Malta Ridge fire protection service agreements call for the formation of a Fire Protection Plan Committee (FPPC) to address ESC findings and to report to the Town Board opportunities for fire service efficiencies and needs.

The agreements call for 7 members to carry out this mission, with representation as follows;

Town Board (1 representative)
Village Board of Trustees (1 representative)
Malta Ridge Fire Company (2 representatives, President and Chief)
Round Lake Fire Company (2 representatives, President and Chief)

The FDC shall be resourceful and consider fields to serve community needs for all levels of play including “recreational or “sand-lot” fields that can be developed immediately and economically, regulation and league fields, and tournament fields. Phasing to meet short and long term needs shall be considered.

e. It is the goal of the Town to implement the next phase of expansion of the town’s fields within the next two (2) years..

          In carrying out the above mission, the Parks and Recreation Department shall provide resources and advices to the FDC.
