The Town of
Malta has an appointed assessor who is appointed by the Town Board for a period of six years.  The assessor and staff maintain the assessment roll – the document that contains every property’s assessment.  To do this, the physical description, or inventory, and value estimate of every parcel of real property in the municipality is kept up-to-date.

The assessor also updates new construction, and major improvements to existing structures as to maintain a current value.  The assessor also approves and administers property tax exemptions (STAR, Senior Enhanced STAR, Veterans, Agricultural).

The assessor reviews every transfer of real property in the municipality.  The basic information on the buyer, seller and sale price is reviewed for accuracy.  Assessment records are then updated.
