The Highway Department’s responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining the Town’s roads and streets which include general maintenance, resurfacing, reconstruction, improvements, and snow removal; assisting in the maintenance of all Town owned buildings, grounds, parks and multi-purpose trails.

Winter Hours: Nov.- Mar.7:00am - 3:30pm  Mon.-Fri.

Please be aware that there are various permits that must be filed with the Highway Department for various work done within the town. There are NO FEES associated with these forms. All forms can be mailed, dropped off to our office, faxed (518-899-9038) or e-mailed (highway@malta-town.org) to us. Please contact us if you ever have any questions at 518-899-2818 or highway@malta-town.org. The forms are:

  •             Driveway Connection Permit Application; 
                      When you need to make a new cut off one of our roads, you will need to submit this form with a copy of the proposed plan.
  •             Permit for Construction Signs;
                      
    During construction there is sometimes a need to post signage on our roads which you are required to submit this form to us with a sketch of what is planned.
  •            Permit of Construction of Utilities;
                        This form must be submitted for any utility construction proposed along our roadways 

    Special Hauling Permit;
      If you need to transport equipment that is heavier than what the road load allows, please fill this form out and submit to the Highway Superintendent.

                Any digging performed on your property:
    Whenever you plan to do any digging on your property or along the road then you must contact Dig Safely New York at 1-800-962-7962. For additional information and their forms regarding this you can go on their website (www.digsafelyny.org).

               
           Please visit our Comptroller’s Department for vouchers and W-9 forms when submitting your invoices for payment to our department. A W-9 must be submitted the first time a business/company does business with the Town. If your service includes employees, it may constitute "Public Work" therefore requiring a Certified Payroll be submitted with our voucher.
