The Village of Round Lake is located in the southeastern portion of the Town of Malta. The area was originally established as the Round Lake Camp Meeting Association in 1868 for the purpose of conducting religious meetings. By the turn of the century, the Association had become a year-round community and was nearly built-out. The community contains impressive Victorian homes and institutional buildings testifying to the importance of the religious movement of the post-Civil War era. In 1975, the entire Village was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
